Meaghan Major had the urge to be a witness of the world she experienced and choose photography and journalism to express her sensitivity to people and to places. Born and raised in a Franco - American family, she was exposed early on to the individual aspects of a multicultural life. She has made the world her home, and balances the paradox of urban and inner life. "I seek to develop my wisdom through an active development of the world" would explain that she considers people's uniqueness rather than their difference, and relentlessly focuses on capturing the unseen beauty in mundane things, revealing their hidden qualities to our often-glazed eyes.
In the past year she has focused on social issues as AIDS and Muslim community in France as well as developing her body of work on urban culture. Meaghan was published in the special issue of Courrier International in October 2008. She worked in the Press department of Magnum Photos Paris and used to be the assistant of the photo editor in Vogue Paris. These experiences allowed her to understand better the whole process of photojournalism world, from taking the picture to having it published. Today she is very conscious of what it involves to work in an agency as much as in a magazine. Meaghan has a bachelor degree in journalism (ISCPA/IGS-Paris) and a certificate in photojournalism and documentary photography (ICP-New York).
