Alinka Echeverría Alinka Echeverría is a Mexican visual artist whose photography and video work lies in the crossroads between art and ethnography. She holds a graduate certificate from The International Center of Photography in New York and an MA in Cultural Anthropology from The University of Edinburgh. Exhibitions of her work include ‘Faccia Lei’ at the 52nd Venice Biennale of Contemporary Art (2007), ´What We Saw´ at Pingyao Photo Festival in China (2008), ‘Las Americas Latinas: Las Fatigas del Querer' at Spazio Oberdan in Milan (2009) and 'In Stitches' at Leila Taghinia-Milani Heller Gallery in New York, (2009). Primarily focused in photography, Alinka has also inmersed into video art. Her first video project ´The Lightness of Being´, was screened at the Reel Venus Film Festival and at the Slide luck Potshow XIII in New York. In addition to publishing commissioned work for clients such as Explore/The Annenberg Foundation, Fundación Casa Medina Sidonia, Colombia es Pasión and China Weekly, her personal work has been published by Visura Magazine, Cuartoscuro, The Black Snapper and The Sunday Times Magazine. In 2008, Alinka was awarded honorable mentions from the American Society of Media Photographers, American Photography and a nomination for a New York Photo Festival award. In 2009 she was a finalist for the Ian Parry Scholarship resulting in an exhibition at the Getty Images Gallery in London. She was also selected for the ‘Summer Show’ at Foto 8´s Host Gallery in London as well as The Art of Photography Show in San Diego curated by Charlotte Cotton. Alinka is currently a candidate for the 2010 Joop Swart World Press Photo Masterclass award and is a participating artist in 'The Other Mexican Suitcase', a traveling exhibition curated by Toxico Cultura currently on show in the Fototeca of Havana.
